Wellness, Lifelong Learning and Career Orientation Mentorship Program
What is WeLLCOMe?
WeLLCOMe is a neuroscience outreach program held at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus that is supported by a grant from the MaggieGeorge Foundation. The program is meant to introduce at-risk students to science and healthcare careers. It aims to teach about neuroplasticity and how neurons in the brain are constantly making and breaking connections. This is why studying, learning, exercising, and eating well are all great ways to keep the brain healthy.
My Role
For the 2017-2018 academic year, I acted as a coordinator of this event. My responsibilities included:
- Re-designing the curriculum to focus on neuroplasticity (and educational neuroscience)
- Plan and supervise activities for students
- Manage the grant and track finances
- Teach students about the brain during various mini-lessons of instruction
Materials
The following materials were developed for use in the WeLLCOMe neuroscience outreach event.
